I awoke this Saturday morning to the sound of a band playing out on the street corner. Not so unusual for this neighborhood I'm thinking: possibly they're drumming up support for a show later in the day. But it keeps getting louder, and then I hear people cheering. Then I look out the window and what do I see but the New York City marathon running past my apartment:

Hey Alan, nice pic! I love the guys in the black-red-yellow costume! Are these Germans?
If I would run a marathon again, I would do it only in a fancy dress for sure. It'll be so much fun!!!
In France nearby Bordeaux they have each year this crazy "Marathon du Medoc". Graf Dracula is chased by King Kong,... ;-) almost everyone is disguised. Furthermore the assistant-crew serves wine every few miles and at the last few ones you get champagne & fresh oyster. It's also called the longest marathon... even though it's just 42,195 km like every marathon. Probably because of the wiggly line which they run after too many glasses of Rothschild.
Lance Armstrong was also taking part in the N.Y. Marathon!? I was kind of shocked about the time: 2:59!? Of course I assumed that he would participate in any other race. When you have been always in this competition-thing or rather meeting physical challenges, you need it like the air for breathing.
