Thermo, I just witnessed something that begs to be spun into a social commentary and posted on your blog, but I'll just provide the facts and let you provide the commentary.

I have never seen so many ice cream trucks in my life. Living on a dead end street, I know these trucks are not just driving by, but targeting the neighborhood youth. On a given weeknight, two to three trucks will pass, and on saturday, more. No longer do they just ring a bell, now they loop the same childrens song on the loudspeaker everyday. Particularly annoying is the fact that the song is a hybrid of "Do your ears hang low" and "Turkey in the straw," what the fuck?

On to the good stuff: A truck just made a lap, blasting its "Turkey ears hang low" shit, and wasn't stopped until it almost left the block. That's when I hear "wait, stop," and see two fat little girls (10-12) running after the truck. They only had to run one block, but they gave up chase accross from our place, panting. You know why? Because in less than two hours another fucking truck will drive by.

drew: have you forgotten the ice cream trucks that trolled our old whittier neighborhood playing "mammy's little baby love's shotenin' bread?" given the demographic, i'd have to say that one's even more ripe for social commentary.

but no i agree. the lack of musical variety is the thing that gets to me though. it's like somebody equipped the unl belltower with wheels and told it to follow me around for the rest of my adult life.
